Disassembly and Assembly



Oil Pump

Note:
This procedure is included in the engine disassembly and assembly procedure so modifications may be required if performing the procedure as an in vehicle service operation.

Disassembly

1. If necessary, remove oil filter.
2. Remove oil pump and filter body retaining bolts and remove oil pump and filter body. Removal and Installation
3. Remove pump gears from pocket in engine front cover.
4. Remove oil pump body seal and discard.
5. Remove all traces of seal material from oil pump and filter body.
6. Place a straightedge across mounting surface of oil pump and filter body and measure for wear or warpage using a feeler gauge.
7. If surface is out of flat by more than O.O4mm (0.0016 inch) replace oil pump and filter body.

Assembly

1. Lightly pack gear pocket with petroleum jelly or coat all gear surfaces with Engine Assembly Lubricant D9AZ-19579-D or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESR-M99C80-A.
Do not use chassis lubricants.
2. Install gears in cover pocket. Ensure petroleum jelly fills all voids between gears and pocket.

Caution: Failure to properly coat the oil pump gears may result in failure of the pump to prime when engine is started.

4. Position oil pump body seal and install oil pump and filter body.
5. Tighten oil pump and filter body retaining bolts to 25-30 Nm (18-22 ft-lbs).
