Coolant: Service and Repair

Cooling System Draining, Filling and Bleeding
1. Bring engine to normal operating temperature and turn engine OFF.

2. WARNING: NEVER REMOVE PRESSURE RELIEF CAP UNDER ANY CONDITIONS WHILE ENGINE IS OPERATING. FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS COULD RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE COOLING SYSTEM OR ENGINE.

WARNING: TO AVOID BURNS FROM SCALDING COOLANT OR STEAM, USE EXTREME CARE WHEN REMOVING THE PRESSURE RELIEF CAP.

Drain cooling system as follows:
a. If cooling system is still hot, carefully wrap a thick cloth around the pressure relief cap and rotate slowly until pressure begins to release. Step back until the pressure is released.
b. Then rotate pressure relief cap until free. Remove the pressure relief cap.
c. Raise vehicle on hoist.
d. Remove splash shield from front of front sub-frame and body.
e. Open radiator draincock and drain the coolant system.
f. Remove the inlet and outlet heater water hoses from the heater core.

g. WARNING: USE EXTREME CARE WHEN USING COMPRESSED AIR. ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES OR POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY MAY RESULT.

CAUTION: Do not exceed 69 kPa (10 psi) of air pressure when draining the heater core or possible damage to heater core may occur. Carefully using compressed air, blow regulated 69 kPa (10 psi) of air pressure into the heater core. This ensures that the coolant is drained from the heater core.
