Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch (For Computer): Service and Repair

Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor:






REMOVAL

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable (14301).

2. Partially drain the cooling system.

3. Remove the engine air intake resonator (9F763).

4. Disconnect the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor electrical connector.

5. Remove the ECT sensor from the heater hose inlet pipe.

NOTE: It may be necessary to brace the heater hose inlet pipe with a free hand during removal and installation.

INSTALLATION

1. Coat the threads of the ECT sensor with Ford Pipe Sealant with Teflon� DSAZ-19554-A or equivalent prior to installation.

2. Install the ECT sensor in the heater hose inlet pipe.

3. Connect the ECT sensor electrical connector.

4. Install the engine air intake resonator.

5. Refill the cooling system.

6. Connect the battery ground cable.

NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the powertrain control module relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the adaptive strategy.
