Cylinder Identification Sensor: Service and Repair

Camshaft Sensor Replacement:

REMOVAL

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable (14301).

2. Remove the intake manifold (9424).

3. Remove the two Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor screws.

4. Remove the CMP sensor from the cylinder head (6049).

INSTALLATION

1. Inspect the O-rings for damage and replace as necessary.

2. Lubricate the O-rings with light engine oil and insert the CMP sensor in the cylinder head.

3. Install the two CMP sensor screws and tighten them to 20-30 Nm (15-22 ft lb).

4. Install the intake manifold.

5. Connect the battery ground cable.

NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the powertrain control module relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the adaptive strategy.
