Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

Ignition Cable: Service and Repair

REMOVAL:
When removing ignition spark plug wires from the spark plugs, use a Spark Plug Wire Removal tool. Grasp the ignition spark plug wire boot and twist it back and forth on the spark plug insulator, while gently puliing to free the ignition spark plug wire boot. Do not pull on the spark plug wire directly, because the spark plug wire may separate from the connector inside the boot.

When removing ignition spark plug wires from the ignition coil, squeeze the locking tabs of the coil boot retainer and remove, using a twisting and pulling motion. Do not pull on the ignition spark plug wire.

CAUTION:
Proper installation of ignition spark plug wires is critical to vehicle operation. If one ignition spark plug wire is not properly installed on the spark plug or on the ignition coil, both spark plugs connected to the ignition coil may not activate under load.
