Alternator: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove upper alternator mounting bolt.
2. Loosen alternator adjusting arm, then remove drive belt.
3. Raise and support vehicle, then remove bolts and crossmember.
4. Disconnect alternator electrical connectors.
5. Remove lower alternator mounting bolt, then the alternator.
6. Reverse procedure to install, noting following:
a. Adjust drive belt tension to specifications.
b. Torque lower bolt to 27-38 ft lb.
c. Torque upper bolt to 8-10 ft lb.
d. Torque crossmember bolts to 69-96 ft lb.
