Torque Converter Components

CONVERTER ASSEMBLY
The torque converter couples the engine to the turbine shaft. It also provides torque multiplication and absorbs engine shock of gear shifting.

PISTON PLATE CLUTCH & DAMPER ASSEMBLY
The piston plate clutch and damper assembly transmit engine power to the turbine from the converter cover during lockup.

CONVERTER COVER
The converter cover transmits power from the engine into the converter. The oil pump driveshaft is splined to the converter cover.

TURBINE
The turbine is splined to the drive sprocket turbine shaft and driven by fluid by the impeller.

IMPELLER
The impeller is driven by the converter cover, together with the reactor it supplies torque multiplication.

REACTOR
The reactor, also called the stator, contains a one-way clutch to hold it stationary only when "reaction" is required. It also causes hydraulic reaction during torque multiplication.

OIL PUMP DRIVE SHAFT
Shaft splined to the converter cover which drives the oil pump.
