On-Road Test

NOTE: When performing this test, keep the vehicle speeds within reasonably low limits. If the system does not perform as normally expected, make note of the malfunction. Perform the speed control system road test in high gear with manual transmission vehicles or Drive with automatic transmission vehicles.

WARNING: If at any time during the following steps the system should appear to go out of control and overspeed, be prepared to shift the transmission into neutral and turn the system off at once with the Off switch or the ignition switch.

1. Start engine and turn on speed control, then accelerate and hold at 35 mph.
2. Press and release Set/Accel switch, holding foot pressure very lightly on accelerator pedal and shaft. Normally speed will continue at 35 mph.
3. Press Off switch and engine should decelerate.
4. Press On switch, then accelerate and hold speed at 35 mph.
5. Press and hold Set/Accel switch and slowly remove foot from accelerator and shaft. Engine should gradually increase.
6. When speed reaches 50 mph, release Set/Accel switch, then press CST switch and hold. Engine should decelerate and slow to 35 mph.
7. Release CST button and speed should set in.
8. Press brake pedal and system should shut off, causing engine to idle.
9. Set speed at 50 mph, then brake to 35 mph and maintain 35 mph with accelerator pedal and shaft.
10. Depress and release RSM switch and speed should return to 50 mph.
