Simulated Road Test
CAUTION: When performing this simulated road test, rear wheels of vehicle must be raised clear of floor. Use only a suitable lifting device (such as a garage-type hoist) and support the rear with one jackstand on each side. Never attempt to use rear bumper jack for tests of this type. Block front wheels securely. On 4WD vehicles, the front wheels should be off the floor or the 4WD should be disengaged and verified.NOTE: When performing this test, keep the vehicle speeds within reasonably low limits. If the system does not perform as normally expected, make note of malfunction.
WARNING: If at any time during the following steps the system should appear to go out of control and overspeed, be prepared to turn the system off at once with the Off switch or ignition switch.
1. Start engine, then shift transmission to Drive or high gear.
2. Press speed control On switch, then accelerate and hold at 35 mph.
3. Press and release Set/Accel switch, holding foot pressure very lightly on accelerator pedal and shaft. Normally, speed will continue at 35 mph for short period of time and then gradually start surging because engine is not loaded. Slight application of brake pedal will reduce surging.
4. Press Off switch. Engine should drop back to idle.
5. Press On switch, then accelerate and hold speed at 35 mph.
6. Press and hold Set/Accel switch, then slowly remove foot from accelerator pedal and shaft. Engine speed should gradually increase.
7. When speed reaches 50 mph, release Set/Accel switch. Vehicle should maintain 50 mph for short time before surging begins. Press CST switch and hold. Engine should idle.
8. Slow rear wheels to 35 mph, then release CST switch. Speed should set in and surging should soon start.
9. Press brake pedal and system should turn off and engine should slow to idle.
10. Accelerate engine and set speed at 50 mph, then brake to 35 mph and maintain 35 mph with accelerator pedal and shaft.
11. Depress and release RSM switch. Speed should return to 50 mph.
