Climate Control Assembly
Front and Rear A/C and Heat
The following illustration shows the type of A/C control presently used in an Aerostar which is equipped with both a main and auxiliary climate control system.
Front A/C and Heat Only
If the vehicle does not come equipped with rear A/C and Heat, the A/C control will not have a rear blower motor switch in it.
Airflow Control
The function selector knob is located in the right side of the A/C control. The knob rotates to positions:
OFF, VENT, FLR, MIX, MAX A/C, NORM A/C and DEFROST. In the OFF position, the power to the blower motor is turned off.
Temperature Control
Temperature is controlled by a cable-operated air blend door in the plenum assembly. When the temperature control knob is in COOL position, all air is directed around the heater core.
When the temperature control knob is in WARM position, all air is directed through the heater core. When the temperature control knob is moved anywhere between full COOL and full WARM, air is directed through and around the heater core in proportion to the position of the temperature control knob between the extremes of its travel.
Blower Motor Control
The heater blower motor switch in the upper left portion of the A/C control provides four speeds:
low, medium low, medium high, and high. The heater blower motor switch shown in the lower left portion of the A/C control is provided when the vehicle is equipped with an optional auxiliary heat only system or a heat and air conditioning system if A/C is included in the main system. Details regarding the auxiliary system are covered in HVAC Auxiliary.
Vacuum Hoses
An A/C plenum vacuum harness is connected to the A/C control and the vacuum control motors housed in the heater air plenum chamber. By placing the function selector knob in any position with the engine running, vacuum will be applied or removed from the mini-tube vacuum hoses within the A/C plenum vacuum harness and the vacuum control motors will respond
