Automatic Transmission

The Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch is a safety device used in the starter interrupt system. It allows the starter to crank the engine only in PARK or NEUTRAL. It activates the backup lamps in REVERSE, and it signals gear position to the powertrain control module for engine idle control.
