Neutral Safety Switch: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable, then place the gearshift lever in the NEUTRAL position.
2. Lower the vehicle, then remove the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor as follows:
a. Loosen engine air cleaner tube clamps on air cleaner outlet tube.
b. Disconnect the crankcase ventilation hoses and Intake Air Control (IAC) valve tube from the air cleaner outlet tube fitting.
c. Remove the outlet tube from the MAF sensor and throttle body.
d. Disconnect the engine control sensor wiring connector from the MAF sensor.
e. Remove the bolts, or release clips from air cleaner cover. Carefully remove the mass air flow sensor.
f. Inspect the O-ring for wear or damage and replace as necessary.
3. Disconnect the electrical harness from the Transaxle Range (TR) sensor/neutral safety switch.
4. Remove TR sensor bolts, then sensor.
5. Reverse the procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Ensure manual control lever is in the NEUTRAL position.
b. Align the sensor slots using the sensor tool T94P-70010-AH, or equivalent.
c. Torque the sensor bolts to 7-9 ft lb.
d. Torque the MAF sensor bolts to 25 in lb.
e. Torque the engine air cleaner tube clamps to 24-48 in lb.
