Intake Manifold: Service and Repair

1. Relieve fuel system pressure, then disconnect battery ground cable and drain cooling system.
2. Disconnect vacuum hoses and electrical connectors from air cleaner assembly, then remove assembly.
3. Disconnect knock sensor electrical connector, then remove sensor bracket from intake manifold.
4. Remove crankshaft position sensor bracket from righthand side of intake manifold.

5. Remove rear spark plug wires, then the Variable Resonance Induction System (VRIS) solenoid electrical connector bracket from rear of intake manifold.
6. Disconnect PCV valve vacuum hose from intake manifold, then the throttle position sensor and fuel rail electrical connectors.
7. Disconnect throttle cable from throttle body, then remove vacuum hose from fuel vapor canister.
8. Disconnect fuel supply line at fuel rails and discard copper crush washers, then remove vacuum and fuel lines from fuel pressure regulator.
9. Remove EGR breather tube, then the intake manifold bolts and nuts in two or three steps.
10. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Use two new copper crush washers when installing fuel rail supply line.
b. Use new intake manifold gaskets.
c. Tighten five intake manifold bolts and two nuts to 14-18 ft lb.
