Safing Sensor: Service and Repair

Removal





The center cowl safing rear air bag sensor and bracket is mounted on the bulkhead behind the floor console.

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

WARNING: THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY MUST BE DEPLETED BEFORE ANY AIR BAG COMPONENT SERVICE IS PERFORMED. TO DEPLETE THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY GROUND CABLE AND WAIT ONE MINUTE.





2. Remove the screw, the push pin and the LH console front finish panel.





3. Disconnect the center cowl safing rear air bag sensor electrical connectors.
4. Remove the two center cowl safing rear air bag sensor bolts.
5. Remove the center cowl safing rear air bag sensor and bracket.

Installation
1. Position the center cowl safing rear air bag sensor and bracket with the arrow on the sensor facing toward the front of the vehicle and install the center cowl safing rear air bag sensor and bracket bolts. Tighten the two center cowl safing rear air bag sensor and bracket bolts to 7-9 Nm (61-86 lb-in).
2. Connect the center cowl safing rear air bag sensor electrical connectors.
3. Position the console front finish panel and install the push pin and screw.
4. Connect the battery ground cable.
5. Verify that the air bag warning indicator is operative.
