Traction Control System

This vehicle is equipped with an optional traction control system. The traction control system:
- Controls wheel spin on slippery or loose driving surfaces.
- Controls traction through brake intervention and engine torque modulation at all speeds up to 55 km/h (32 mph).
- Monitors front brake application to prevent front brake overheating.
- Operates at all driving speeds.
- The traction control system operates as follows:
- During acceleration, if one or both of the front wheels lose traction and begin to spin, traction control system will rapidly apply and release the front brakes and/or reduce and restore engine torque.
- The isolation valve in the brake pressure control valve block (2C266) will close and the pump motor (2C256) will run. The isolation valve permits traction control to operate only the front brakes by closing off the paths to the brake master cylinder (2140).
- If the brakes are applied during traction control operation, traction control will cancel and allow normal brake operation.
- The traction control continually monitors front brake application and may shut down traction control to prevent the front brake from overheating. During this cool down period ABS braking remains functional.
- The TRAC ACTIVE indicator in the message center will illuminate when the traction control is operating (minimum on time is 4 seconds).
- A traction control switch, located in the glove compartment, can deactivate and activate the traction control system, when the vehicle is at rest.
- Traction control at start up will always initially be activated. When the traction control switch is pressed (vehicle at rest), the TRAC OFF lamp will illuminate. When the traction control switch is pressed a second time (vehicle at rest) the TRAC OFF lamp will turn off and traction control is activated.

The traction control system consists of the following components:
- Power brake booster
- Brake master cylinder
- Anti-lock brake control module
- Brake pressure control valve block
- Pump motor
- Anti-lock ring
- Traction control switch
