Backing Plate: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Remove rear hub.
2. Remove rear wheel cylinder.
3. Remove wheel cylinder brake hose bracket bolt.
4. Remove rear brake antilock sensor wire bracket bolt and position rear brake antilock sensor wire out of the way.
5. Remove rear spring.
6. Remove and discard four brake backing plate-to-rear axle nuts.
7. Remove rear brake backing plate.
NOTE: The rear wheel spindle is also secured by the brake backing plate-to-rear axle nuts and will come off with brake backing plate.
8. Remove and discard the brake backing plate-to-rear axle studs from rear brake backing plate.
INSTALLATION
1. Install new brake backing plate-to-rear axle studs in rear brake backing plate.
2. Position rear brake backing plate and rear wheel spindle to rear axle and install four new brake backing plate-to-rear axle nuts. Tighten to 8-92 Nm (51-67 lb ft).
3. Install rear spring.
4. Install rear brake antilock sensor wire bracket.
5. Install wheel cylinder brake hose bracket. Tighten wheel cylinder brake hose bracket bolt to 8-10 Nm (71-88 lb in).
6. Install rear wheel cylinder.
7. Install rear hub.
