Rocker Arm Assembly: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Remove valve covers.
2. Remove rocker arm seat retaining bolts from cylinder heads and remove rocker arms.
INSTALLATION
1. Lubricate all rocker arms with Engine Assembly Lubricant D9AZ-19579-D or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESR-M99C80-A.
2. For each valve, rotate crankshaft until valve tappet rests onto heel (base circle) of camshaft lobe. Position rocker arms over push rods. Install rocker arm seats. Tighten rocker arm seat retaining bolts to 5 Nm (44 inch lbs.) MAXIMUM.
CAUTION: Rocker arm seats must be fully seated in cylinder head and push rods must be seated in rocker arm sockets prior to final tightening or damage to engine may occur.
3. Final-tighten rocker arm seat bolts to 30-40 Nm (22-29 ft. lbs.). For final tightening, the camshaft may be in any position.
4. Install valve covers.
