Generator Circuit Description

BATTERY POSITIVE VOLTAGE (B+) OUTPUT

The B+ circuit:
- supplies the generator output current to the power distribution box.
- is always hot.

I Circuit
The I circuit:
- turns the voltage regulator on when the ignition switch is in the RUN position.
- turns the generator warning lamp on if there is a problem in the charging system or associated wiring.

A Circuit
The A circuit:
- is used by the voltage regulator to sense battery voltage (B+).
- supplies current to the generator field coil.
- is always hot.
- is protected by a fuse in the power distribution box.

S Circuit
The S circuit:
- is used by the voltage regulator to sense the generator (stator) output.
- Voltage is typically one-half of battery voltage when the generator (GEN)) is operating.

The generator warning lamp will turn on if the S circuit voltage is zero. The warning lamp will turn off if the S circuit voltage is greater than 5 volts.

NOTE: If the S circuit is open or disconnected, the generator warning lamp will turn on, even if the generator is operating normally.
