Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Replacement, Functional

REMOVAL
NOTE: The following procedure applies to vehicles that have functional lock cylinders and keys. If key numbers are known, the proper key can be made.

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.

2. Remove the ignition switch lock cylinder.
(1) Position the lock cylinder to RUN.
(2) Using a suitable tool, push upward on the cylinder release tab through the hole in the lower shroud while pulling the cylinder outward.

INSTALLATION
1. Install the ignition switch lock cylinder by turning it to the RUN position. Insert the ignition switch lock cylinder into the steering column housing. Make sure the ignition switch lock cylinder is fully seated and aligned in the interlocking washer before turning the key to the OFF position. This will permit the retaining pin of the ignition switch lock cylinder to extend into the hole of the steering column.
2. Rotate the ignition switch lock cylinder, using the key, to ensure correct mechanical operation in all positions.
3. Reconnect the battery ground cable.

NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the powertrain control module relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
