Engine Temperature Sensor: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

CAUTION: Always disconnect the battery ground cable prior to working on the electronic engine controls.

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. On vehicles equipped with dual batteries, use proper cable disconnect procedures.

NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.

2. Remove the air cleaner assembly and resonator.
3. Remove the engine cover.
4. Remove the wiring harness routing clamp retaining nut located on the high-pressure pump oil reservoir. Position the wiring harness aside.





5. Prior to removal of the Engine Oil Temperature (EOT) sensor, remove the oil in the high-pressure pump reservoir.
- Avoid spilling.
- Use a suction gun.
- Insert the tube into the port on the top right (viewed from the front of the engine) of the reservoir, and remove the oil.





6. Disconnect the wiring at the engine oil temperature sensor and remove the sensor.

INSTALLATION
Follow the removal procedure in reverse order.
