Removal and Replacement
REMOVALCAUTION: Always disconnect the battery ground cable prior to working on the electronic engine controls.
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. On vehicles equipped with dual batteries, use proper disconnect procedures.
NOTE: When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
2. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
3. Remove the wiring harness retaining bolt and wiring connector cover.
4. Disconnect the wiring harness.
5. Remove the retaining nuts and Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
INSTALLATION
Follow the removal procedure in reverse order. Tighten PCM electrical connector bolt to 5-7 Nm (46-64 lb in).
