Evaporator Core: Service and Repair




REMOVAL

NOTE: Do not disassemble the A/C evaporator housing. If the A/C evaporator core needs to be replaced, replace the A/C evaporator housing as an assembly.

NOTE: If the A/C evaporator housing is replaced, it will be necessary to replace the suction accumulator/drier.





1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.





2. Disconnect the A/C vacuum line.

CAUTION: Plug all ports to prevent contamination from dirt and moisture.





3. Disconnect the rear condenser to evaporator tube spring lock coupling.

CAUTION: Plug all ports to prevent contamination from dirt or moisture.





4. Disconnect the suction accumulator/drier spring lock coupling.

CAUTION: Plug all ports to prevent contamination from dirt or moisture.

5. Remove the instrument panel. Refer to: Body and Frame, Interior Trim, Dashboard/Instrument Panel, Service and Repair, Instrument Panel - Replacement, Instrument Panel - Replacement





6. Loosen the A/C evaporator outlet duct clamp bolt.





7. Disconnect the A/C blower motor electrical connector.





8. Disconnect the vacuum control motor vacuum connector.





9. Detach the vacuum lines from the A/C evaporator housing retainer.














10. Remove the four A/C evaporator housing nuts and the A/C evaporator housing.

INSTALLATION
1. Install the A/C evaporator housing.





2. Attach the vacuum lines to the A/C evaporator housing retainer.





3. Connect the vacuum control motor vacuum connector.
4. Install the instrument panel. Refer to: Body and Frame, Interior Trim, Dashboard/Instrument Panel, Service and Repair, Instrument Panel - Replacement, Instrument Panel - Replacement





5. Connect the suction accumulator/drier spring lock coupling.





6. Connect the rear condenser to evaporator tube spring lock coupling.





7. Connect the A/C vacuum line.
8. Leak test the A/C system.
