Compressor HVAC: Service and Repair

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.




2. Recover the refrigerant from the system. Refrigerant Recovery
3. Remove the engine drive belt.




4. Disconnect the (A) A/C clutch electrical connector and remove the (B) power steering hose clamp nut.




5. Remove the A/C manifold and tube to A/C compressor bolt.




6. Remove the A/C compressor.
1 Remove the bolts.
2 Lift out the A/C compressor.
7. For A/C compressor replacement:
- Drain and measure the oil to ensure the correct amount is added in replacement.

NOTE: If equipped, transfer the heat shield to the new compressor.

INSTALLATION
















1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.

NOTE:
- When the battery is disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the vehicle relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may have to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.
- Lubricate the new A/C manifold O-rings with PAG Compressor Oil F2AZ-19577-AC or Motorcraft YN-12b or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSH-MC1231-B.
- When installing the A/C manifold to compressor bolt, seal the threads with Pipe Sealant with Teflon (R) D8AZ-19554-A or equivalent meeting Ford specifications WSK-M2G350-A2 and ESR-M18P7-A.
