Inspection

DESCRIPTION
Drive belts (8620) must be properly adjusted at all times. Loose drive belts will result in slippage which may cause a noise condition or improper accessory operation (e.g., the generator will not charge). Over-tightened drive belts will place an unnecessary load on the accessory bearings.

Inspection and Verification
1. Verify customer concern by running the engine (6007).
2. Inspect the drive belts (8620) for cracks, fraying, and wear.
3. Check that the drive belts are correctly mounted and properly adjusted.
4. Check for pulleys that are misaligned or excessive pulley runout.
5. If the concern remains after inspection, determine the symptoms and go to Diagnosis by Symptom.
