Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Flow of Diagnosis

1. Verify the customer concern by operating the system in question.
2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of electrical damage; refer to the Visual Inspection chart.

VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

Electrical
^ Damaged wiring harness
^ Loose or corroded connections
^ Damaged air bag diagnostic monitor
^ Damaged anti-lock brake control module
^ Damaged Remote Anti-theft Personality (RAP) module
^ Damaged Powertrain Control Module (PCM)

3. If the concern remains after the inspection, connect New Generation Star (NGS) Tester to the Data Link Connector (DLC) located beneath the instrument panel and select the vehicle to be tested from NGS Tester menu. If the NGS does not communicate with the vehicle:
^ Check that the program card is properly installed.
^ Check the connections to the vehicle.
^ Check the ignition switch position.

If NGS still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the New Generation Star Tester Manual.

4. Perform the DIAGNOSTIC DATA LINK using NGS Tester. If NGS Tester responds with: CKT914, CKT915 or CKT70=ALL MODULES NO RESPONSE/NOT EQUIPPED, refer to System Precheck, Pinpoint Test PC.
5. If no modules listed on NGS are related to the concern, return to the module specific testing.
