Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Service and Repair

Special Tools:





REMOVAL
1. Position manual control lever in the neutral position.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Raise vehicle on hoist.
4. Remove nut retaining manual shift cable to transmission control lever and position aside.
5. Remove two retaining bolts.
6. Lower digital TR sensor and disconnect electrical harness from digital Transmission Range (TR) sensor.





7. Remove digital Transmission Range (TR) sensor.

INSTALLATION
1. Install digital Transmission Range (TR) sensor and loosely install two retaining bolts.





2. Align Digital TR sensor slots using Digital Transmission Range (TR) Sensor Alignment Tool 307-351 (T97L-70010-A).
3. Tighten retaining bolts to 7-10 Nm (62-88 inch lbs.) and remove tool.
4. Connect electrical harness to digital Transmission Range (TR) sensor.
5. Install manual shift cable and tighten retaining nut to 19-26 Nm (14-19 ft. lbs.).
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Connect battery ground cable.
8. Check for proper operation with parking brake control engaged. The engine should start only in PARK or NEUTRAL.
