Wiper Motor: Service and Repair
REMOVAL and INSTALLATION
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
CAUTION: The internal permanent magnets used in the windshield wiper motor are a ceramic (glass-like) material. Care must be exercised in handling the windshield wiper motor to avoid damaging the magnets. The windshield wiper motor must not be struck or tapped with a hammer or other object.
2. Remove the windshield wiper pivot arms and windshield wiper blades.
3. Remove the cowl top vent grille by carefully prying up on rear edge of cowl top vent grille.
4. Remove cowl top vent grille from cowl.
5. Remove windshield wiper adapter and connecting arm clip retaining windshield wiper mounting arm and pivot shaft to windshield wiper motor output arm.
6. Remove the linkage drive arm from the windshield wiper motor.
7. Disconnect the windshield wiper motor electrical connector and remove the three screws retaining windshield wiper motor to cowl. Pull the windshield wiper motor from the opening.
8. To install, reverse Removal procedure. Tighten all windshield wiper motor retaining screws to 13-17 Nm (10-12 lb-ft).
NOTE: When installing the drive arm to a new windshield wiper motor, follow the instructions included in the new windshield wiper motor kit.
9. Before installing the windshield wiper pivot arm to the windshield wiper mounting arm and pivot shaft make sure the windshield wiper motor is in the park position and the windshield wiper blades are set to Dimension A (RH) or Dimension B (LH).
