Air Bag Electronic Crash Sensor (ECS)

Removal

WARNING: TO AVOID ACCIDENTAL DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE INJURY, THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY MUST BE DEPLETED BEFORE REPAIRING OR REPLACING ANY AIR BAG SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) COMPONENTS. TO DEPLETE THE BACKUP POWER SUPPLY ENERGY, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY GROUND CABLE AND WAIT ONE MINUTE. BE SURE TO DISCONNECT AUXILIARY BATTERIES AND POWER SUPPLIES (IF EQUIPPED).

CAUTION: Electronic modules are sensitive to static electrical charges. If exposed to these charges, damage can result.

NOTE: Repair is made by replacement only. If a part is replaced and the new part does not correct the condition, install the original part and perform the diagnostic procedure again.

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
2. If equipped with a full floor console panel, remove the floor console panel.
3. Pull back the floor carpet from underneath the instrument panel at the center tunnel and position out of the way.
4. Disconnect the air bag Electronic Crash Sensor (ECS) module electrical connector locking clip and electrical connector.
5. Remove the ECS module retaining nuts.
6. Remove the ECS module.

Installation

CAUTION: The tightening torque of the air bag electronic crash sensor (ecs) module retaining nuts is critical for proper system operation.

NOTE:
^ Make sure to tighten the retaining nuts to specification.
^ When the battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 16 km (10 miles) or more to relearn the strategy.

1. Follow the removal procedure in reverse order.
