WARNING
THIS MODIFICATION IS AUTHORIZED ONLY FOR THE LISTED ENGINE(S). PERFORMING THIS MODIFICATION ON OTHER ENGINE CALIBRATIONS IS UNAUTHORIZED AND COULD CREATE LIABILITY UNDER APPLICABLE FEDERAL OR LOCAL LAWS.

ISSUE
The Malfunction Illumination Lamp (MIL) may be illuminated on some vehicles. Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) P0455/1450/1452/1455 will be stored in memory. This may be caused by an obstruction in the evaporative emissions system vent line and/or loss of seal integrity due to loose/unseated fuel cap.

ACTION
Remove the vent line obstruction (if needed), install a vent filter and dust filter box, replace the canister vent valve, and reprogram the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to the latest calibration level. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Make sure the fuel filler cap is properly seated.

2. Clear the vent line by rolling a ball bearing through the hose.

3. Install the Fuel Vapor Kit (F88Z-9B328-AA) in area of fuel filler cap. Refer to the instructions within the kit.

4. Install the Dust Filter Box Kit (XF2Z-9B328-BA). Refer to the instructions within the kit.

5. Replace the Canister Vent Valve (CVV) Assembly (F78Z-9F945-CA). Refer to the 1998 Windstar Service Manual, Group 03, for procedure.

6. Reprogram the PCM to the latest calibration level (for vehicles equipped with 3.8L engine only).





Obtain an Authorized Modifications Decal (FPS 8262 - obtainable through DOES II, 25/pkg) and list the date, dealer number, and summary of modifications performed. Select a prominent place adjacent to the Vehicle Emission Control Information Decal suitable for installing the Authorized Modifications Decal. Clean the area, install the decal, and cover it with a clear plastic decal shield.
