POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE REFLASHING

AFFECTED VEHICLES
Certain 1998 Windstar Vehicles Equipped With 3.8L Engines and 25 Gallon Fuel Tanks Built From June 16 Through August 4, 1998

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Check the PCM calibration, if calibration is 8-62Q flash reprogramming is not necessary. If it's not a 8-62Q calibration, reflash Powertrain Control Module (PCM) to 8-62Q (current R level) using one of the following two (2) methods:

^ Service Bay Diagnostic System (SBDS).

^ Service Bay Technical System (SBTS) and the New Generation STAR (NGS) Tester with Rotunda flash cable (007-00531) and Rotunda flash card (007-00532).





2. Obtain and prepare the Authorized Modifications Label. Write the modification completed, your P and A Code, date of repair and the recall program type and program number as shown below.

3. Apply label to clear area of the upper radiator support.

4. Provide California and Massachusetts owners with "Emissions Recall-Proof of Correction" Certificates.
