Valve Spring: Service and Repair

Removal
1. Remove the camshaft roller followers.
2. Hold the valve in the cylinder head.





3. Remove the spark plugs.





4. Apply a minimum of 965 kPa (140 psi) of compressed air to the cylinder.
3. Remove the valve springs.
1 Use Valve Spring Compressor to compress the valve spring.
2 Remove the valve spring retainer keys.

4. CAUTION: If a valve drops into the cylinder, remove the cylinder head.

Remove the following:
1 Remove the valve spring retainer.
2 Remove the valve spring.
5. Inspect components, if necessary.

Installation

1. NOTE: Lubricate the parts with Super Premium SAE 5W30 Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G prior to installing.

Follow the removal procedure in reverse order.
