Steering Pump Gear and Intermediate Connection

Part 1 Of 2:

Part 2 Of 2:

The power steering pressure hose outlet at the power steering pump and power steering return hoses at the steering gear housing are quick connect designs. They utilize:
- an O-ring seal between the tube and tube nut or connector.
- a Teflon seal between the tube nut and mating housing.
- an internal snap ring which retains the tube to the tube nut. This allows inlet and outlet tubes to swivel (when detached from heat shield) which is normal.

The quick connect tube end must be pushed into the existing tube nut port along the centerline. The assembly is complete when the tube end bottoms out in the port with an audible click/snap feel. To verify correct assembly, pull back on the quick connect tube end.

Check the steering system by cycling the steering wheel from stop to stop one time with a hesitation at each stop which does not exceed five seconds. The engine is to be idling and the transaxle is to be in PARK or NEUTRAL. Following this maneuver, inspect vehicle for leaks.
