Flow of Diagnosis

The evaporative emissions system is controlled and monitored by the PCM.

1. Verify that the concern is with the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) system.

Mustang, Taurus/Sable, Continental:

Taurus Flex. Fuel And Taurus SHO:

2. Inspect to determine if any of the following mechanical concerns apply:

VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

Mechanical
- Improperly installed fuel filler cap.
- Loose or disconnected components.
- Damaged evaporative emission test port.
- Damaged EVAP canister or vent solenoid
- Loose or disconnected EVAP return tube.

3. If the concern remains after the inspection, determine the symptom and proceed to the following Symptom Chart. Symptom Related Diagnostic Procedures
