Check the Compression Pressure

1. Remove the fuel pump relay. Remove the cover from the Battery Junction Box (BJB). Fuel pump relay (relay R9).

WARNING: Manual transaxles put into neutral. On automatic transmissions select

Start the engine. The engine will start up, run for a few seconds and then stall.
2. Remove the cover plate from the valve head cover.
3. Remove the spark plugs.
Pull off the spark plug connectors.
Pull off the ignition coil connector.

WARNING: Manual transaxles put the transmission into neutral. On automatic transmissions select "P".

4. Install auxiliary starter switch in starting circuit. With ignition switch OFF, using auxiliary starter switch, crank engine a minimum of five compression strokes and record the highest reading. Note the approximate number of compression strokes required to obtain the highest reading.
5. Repeat test on each cylinder, cranking the engine approximately the same number of compression strokes.
6. Refit the components in the reverse order, observing the specified tightening torques.
7. Reset the PCM fault memory.
