Basic concept
The Zetec-E is a four cylinder in-line, 16-valve DOHC engine. The 16 valve cylinder head achieves a better cylinder charge particularly at high engine speeds.

The cylinder head is made from an aluminum alloy whilst the cylinder block is of cast iron design.

The new timing belt cover is further reinforced by a vertical support. This means that the central timing belt cover and, therefore, the front engine mounting have to be removed to fit a new timing belt.
