Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair

Removal





1. Remove the heat shield.





2. Detach the catalytic converter from the manifold.
- Discard the nuts and gaskets.
3. Raise and support the vehicle.





4. Disconnect the catalyst monitor sensor electrical connector.





5. Remove the catalyst monitor sensor.





6. Detach the catalytic converter from the flexible pipe.
- Discard the nuts and gaskets.





7. CAUTION: The catalytic converter must be supported when removing the lower clamp.

1. Remove the lower clamp.
2. Loosen the bracket bolts.
8. Lower the vehicle.

Installation





1. CAUTION: Never use jointing compound forward of the catalytic converter.

Install the catalytic converter to the manifold.
- Use a new gasket and nuts.





2. Install the heat shield.
3. Raise and support the vehicle.





4. Connect the catalytic converter to the flexible pipe.
- Use a new gasket and nuts.





5. Install the bracket.
- Tighten the bolts.





6. Tighten the bracket adjusting bolts.





7. Install the catalyst monitor sensor.





8. Connect the catalyst monitor sensor electrical connector.
9. Lower the vehicle.
