Shift Cable: Service and Repair

Removal





1. Note: Whenever the shift cable is removed from the cable retaining brackets, install a new shift cable.

Note: Whenever a steering column, engine or transaxle removal is required, do not remove the shift cable from the retaining brackets. The brackets must be removed with the shift cable attached.

Remove the shift cable from the steering column lever pivot ball.





2. Remove the retaining clip and the shift cable.
3. Remove the cable grommet from the dash panel.





4. Remove the shift cable from the manual control shift outer lever.





5. Remove the cable retainer and the shift cable.
6. Pull the shift cable through the dash panel opening.

Installation
1. Feed the shift cable into the dash panel opening and position the grommet.





2. Install the shift cable onto the bracket and install the retainer.





3. Install the shift cable into the bracket.
- Install the shift cable and retainer.
- Snap the shift cable onto the manual control shift outer lever pivot ball.





4. Install the shift cable.
- Position the shift cable into the bend bracket.
- Snap the shift cable onto the selector arm ball stud.

5. Adjust the shift cable.
