Heater Core: Service and Repair




REMOVAL

NOTE: If a heater core leak is suspected, the heater core must be leak-tested before it is removed from the vehicle.

1. Remove the instrument panel. For additional information, refer to: Dashboard/Instrument Panel Service and Repair

2. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube.







3. Clamp off and disconnect the heater water hoses from the heater core.







4. Detach the antenna lead from the heater core housing.







5. Disconnect the vacuum control motor vacuum connector.







6. Detach the vacuum lines from the A/C evaporator housing retainer.







7. Remove the windshield defroster nozzle connectors.
- Remove the pin-type retainers.
- Remove the screws and the windshield defroster nozzle connectors.







8. Loosen the A/C evaporator outlet duct clamp screw.







9. Remove the lower heater core housing retaining nut.







10. Remove the upper heater core housing retaining nuts and the heater core housing.







11. Remove the heater dash panel seal.







12. Remove the screws and the heater core cover.







13. Remove the heater core.

INSTALLATION
1. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Clean and lubricate the coolant hoses with coolant hose lubricant or plain water only if needed.
2. Fill the engine cooling system.
