Water Pump: Service and Repair

Water Pump - 7.3L Diesel Engine

Removal and Installation
1. Drain the cooling system.
2. Remove the cooling system fan and fan clutch.
3. Remove the accessory drive belt.





4. NOTE: The coolant pump pulley is removed for clarity.

Disconnect the heater hose from the coolant pump.





5. Remove the two bolts and the coolant outlet tube.





6. Disconnect the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor connector.





7. Disconnect the camshaft position sensor electrical harness from the coolant pump.
1 Remove the bolt.
2 Disconnect the pin-type retainer and position the harness away from the coolant pump.





8. Remove the four bolts and the coolant pump pulley.





9. Remove the six bolts and the coolant pump.
10. Clean the coolant pump gasket surfaces.
11. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
