Removal
1. Remove the hood.
2. On A/C equipped vehicles, recover the air conditioning system.
3. Drain the cooling system.
4. Relieve the fuel pressure.
5. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
6. Remove the sight shield.

2 Remove the sight shield.
7. Remove the upper intake manifold.
8. Remove the intake manifold spacer assembly.
9. Remove the radiator, fan blade assembly, and fan shroud.
10. Disconnect the fuel pressure regulator vacuum connector and the Intake Manifold Runner Control (IMRC) electrical connector.
11. Disconnect the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve vacuum connector.
12. Position the power steering reservoir aside.
1 Remove the bolts.
2 Position the power steering reservoir aside.
13. On A/C equipped vehicles, position the A/C tubes aside.
1 Remove the bolt.
2 Disconnect and position the A/C tubes aside.
14. Position the power steering pump aside.
1 Remove the bolts.
2 Remove and position the power steering pump aside.
15. Disconnect the generator electrical connections.
1 Disconnect the two generator electrical connectors.
2 Remove the nut.
3 Disconnect the battery positive cable.
16. Remove the fuel charging wiring harness.
17. Remove the ignition coil and spark plug wires.
18. Disconnect the two heater water hoses.
19. Disconnect the differential pressure feedback EGR system electrical connector and the wiring harness pin-type retainer.
20. Remove the exhaust manifold-to-EGR valve tube.
21. Remove the crankcase ventilation hose.
22. Remove the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PVC) valve/heater water hose assembly.
23. Disconnect the fuel tube spring lock couplings.
24. Remove the fuel injectors and the fuel injector supply manifold.
25. Raise and support the vehicle.
26. If equipped, disconnect the block heater cable.
27. Remove the four three-way catalytic converter-to-exhaust manifold nuts (two each side).
28. Remove the starter motor.
29. Remove the transmission bolts.
- If equipped with automatic transmission, refer to automatic transmission.
- If equipped with manual transmission, refer to manual transmission.
30. If equipped with manual transmission, remove the clutch.
31. Remove the engine support insulator through bolts.
32. Lower the vehicle.
33. Install the special tool.
34. Using the special tool, remove the engine.
35. Remove the engine flywheel.
1 Remove the bolts.
2 Remove the flywheel.
36. Install the engine on a suitable engine stand.
