Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair

Catalytic Converter - Dual Three-Way





Material

Removal and Installation
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.





2. Disconnect the catalyst monitor sensor electrical connector.





3. Remove the muffler-to-converter flag nuts, bolts and springs. Discard the flag nuts and bolts.





4. Loosen the LH converter-to-manifold nuts.





5. Loosen the RH converter-to-manifold nuts.





6. Remove and discard the dual converter Y-pipe to dual three-way converter nuts.





7. Detach the dual three-way converter from the isolator, then remove the catalytic converter.





8. Remove and discard the gasket and the converter inlet gasket. If necessary, remove the catalyst monitor sensor.

9. CAUTION: Tighten the exhaust component fasteners starting from the rear of the vehicle.

NOTE: Make sure to apply anti-seize lubricant to the threads of the sensor prior to installation.

NOTE: Clean the mating surfaces of the catalytic converters and the inlet pipe.

NOTE: Install new gaskets.

NOTE: Use new exhaust fasteners. To correctly seat the pipes, alternately tighten the nuts to specification.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
