Transfer Case Draining and Filling-Manual Transaxle

CAUTION: New transfer case lubricant must be installed any time the transfer case has been submerged in water.

NOTE: The transfer case is lubricated for life and is not to be checked unless a leak is suspected. To drain the transfer case fluid, the transfer case must be removed from the vehicle.

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.





2. CAUTION: Transfer case failure can result if the correct fill procedures are not followed.

NOTE: The fluid level must be even with the bottom of the filler hole with the vehicle on flat, level ground.

Remove the fill plug and fill the transfer case with rear axle lubricant.
3. Install the fill plug and gasket.
^ Tighten to 49 Nm (36 ft. lbs.).
