- Explorer hood constructed of aluminum
- Mountaineer hood constructed of lightweight steel
- Steel radiator support
- Lightweight steel welded panel construction
- Bolted, removable front fenders, hinged doors, liftgate and hood
- Mountaineer fenders constructed of sheet-molded compound (SMC)
- Explorer and Mountaineer have unique headlamp assemblies and grille
- Explorer and Mountaineer have unique front fascias
- Bolt-on high-strength front bumper beam
- Welded-on high-strength rear bumper beam
- Steel liftgate
