Removal and Installation

WARNING: When carrying out maintenance on the starting system be aware that heavy gauge leads are connected directly to the battery. Make sure the protective cap is in place when maintenance is completed.

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist.
2. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
3. Remove the starter motor solenoid terminal cover.
4. Remove the 2 nuts and disconnect the starter motor electrical connections.
- To install, tighten the solenoid battery cable nut to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft).
- To install, tighten the solenoid wire nut to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).

5. Remove the nut and position the ground cable aside.
- To install, tighten to 22 Nm (16 lb-ft).

6. Remove the bolt, the stud bolt and the starter motor.
- To install, tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft).

7. To install, reverse the removal procedure.
- Install the starter bolts finger tight.
- Tighten the upper bolt.
- Tighten the lower stud bolt.
