Backing Plate: Service and Repair

Brake Backing Plate

Removal and Installation
1. Remove the brake drum.





2. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the parking brake lever.
3. Remove the wheel cylinder.





4. Unclip the parking brake cable and conduit from the brake backing plate and route the cable and conduit out of the backing plate.





5. Remove the wheel speed sensor bolt.
^ To install, tighten to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.).





6. Remove the wheel speed sensor from the backing plate.





7. Remove and discard the 4 backing plate bolts.
^ To install, tighten to 70 Nm (52 ft. lbs.).

8. NOTE: Make sure to install NEW backing plate bolts.

To install, reverse the removal procedure.
