Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Test C: Adjustable Brake Pedal Does Not Operate Correctly

PINPOINT TEST C: ADJUSTABLE BRAKE PEDAL DOES NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY - USING THE MEMORY SET SWITCH/USING THE REMOTE TRANSMITTER; DTCs B1990 AND B1991 - PEDAL FORWARD/REARWARD POTENTIOMETER FEEDBACK CIRCUIT FAILURE AND SHORT TO BATTERY
Refer to Vehicle/Diagrams, Adjustable Pedals for schematic and connector information.

Normal Operation
To move the pedals to position 1, the memory set switch provides a ground for the driver seat module (DSM) through circuit CPS 15 (VT/WH), through the memory set switch internal resistor and finally through circuit GD133 (BK). The DSM then provides voltage to the adjustable pedal motor along circuit CPP01 (WH/OG), through the adjustable pedal motor and back into the DSM along circuit CPP02 (BN) depending on the current pedal position.

To move the pedals to position 2, the memory set switch provides a ground for the DSM through circuit CPS 16 (YE), through the memory set switch internal resistor and finally through circuit GD133 (BK). The DSM then provides voltage to the adjustable pedal motor along circuit CPP02 (BN), through the adjustable pedal motor and back into the DSM along circuit CPP01 (WH/OG) depending on the current pedal position.

The DSM uses a potentiometer attached to the pedal assembly to identify the current pedal position. The DSM sends a reference voltage along circuit LPP06 (YE/BU), through the potentiometer and back to the DSM along the signal return circuit, RPP06 (GN), and the pedal sense circuit, VPP16 (BU/BN).

Possible Causes
^ Circuit open
^ Circuit shorted
^ Memory set switch
^ DSM
^ Adjustable pedal motor
