Removal

CAUTION: During engine repair procedures, cleanliness is extremely important. Any foreign material, including any material created while cleaning gasket surfaces, that enters the oil passages, coolant passages or the oil pan, can cause engine failure.

1. Remove the valve cover.

2. CAUTION: If the rocker arms are to be reused, they must be installed in their original location. Mark the rocker arm for location before removing.

Remove the rocker arm bolts and the rocker arms and pivots.
3. Inspect the rocker arms.

Installation

1. NOTE: Lubricate the rocker arms and pivots with clean engine oil.

Install the rocker arms.
^ Position the rocker arms and pivots.
^ Hand start the bolts.
^ Tighten the bolts in 2 stages.
- Stage 1: Tighten to 5 Nm (44 inch lbs).
- Stage 2: Tighten to 32 Nm (24 ft. lbs).
2. Install the valve cover.
