Distortion

1. NOTE: Do not resurface the crankcase. Surface defects beyond specifications cannot be corrected.

NOTE: Use a straight edge that is calibrated by the manufacturer to be flat within 0.005 mm (0.0002 in) per running foot length, such as Snap-On(R) GA438A or equivalent. For example, if the straight edge is 61 cm (24 in) long, the machined edge must be flat within 0.010 mm (0.0004 in) from end to end.

Using the straight edge and Feeler Gauge Set, check the cylinder block deck for flatness.

- Measure the total deck surface, if any gap exceeds specifications, a new crankcase must be installed. For additional information, refer to Specifications.

- Divide the deck surface into areas of approximately 150 x 150 mm (5.9 in), measure each area and if any gap exceeds specifications, a new crankcase must be installed. For additional information, refer to Specifications.

- Divide the deck surface into areas of approximately 25 x 25 mm (0.98 in), measure each area and if any gap exceeds specifications, a new crankcase must be installed. For additional information, refer to Specifications.
