Selector Lever Cable and Bracket
Removal
1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Vehicle Jacking and Lifting.
2. Remove the instrument panel lower finish panel.
3. Remove the tilt lever dust boot.
4. Remove the screw and the tilt lever.
5. Remove the steering column lower shroud.
1. Remove the screws and the lower shroud.
6. Move the selector lever into the (D) position.
1. Move the selector lever out of the PARK position.
2. Verify the selector lever is mechanically in the (D) position.
7. NOTE: To prevent selector lever cable damage, do not apply force to the selector lever cable assembly between the selector lever arm and the steering column bracket.
Disconnect the selector lever cable from the steering column.
1. Disconnect the selector lever cable from the selector lever arm.
2. Carefully lift the locking tab and disconnect the selector lever cable from the steering column bracket.
3. Disconnect the selector lever cable retainer.
8. Disconnect the cable pushpin from the stud in the dash panel.
9. Push the rubber grommet and selector lever cable through the floor pan.
10. NOTE: To prevent selector lever cable damage, do not apply force to the selector lever cable assembly between the manual control lever and the selector lever cable bracket.
Disconnect the selector lever cable from the manual control lever.
11. Remove and discard the selector lever cable retaining clip.
- Lift the lock tabs on the retaining clip arms to release the clip. Pull the clip and selector lever cable from the selector lever cable bracket.
12. Remove the cable.
13. Remove the selector lever cable bracket bolts and selector lever cable bracket from the transmission.
Installation
1. Install the selector lever cable bracket and the selector lever cable bracket bolts onto the transmission.
- Tighten to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft).
2. Move the manual control lever all the way forward into the LOW position, then move it 3 detents rearward.
3. NOTICE: To prevent selector lever cable damage, do not apply force to the selector lever cable between the manual control lever and the selector lever cable bracket.
NOTE: When installing the selector lever cable, make sure that the selector lever cable locking tabs are locked in place. Press the selector lever cable into the bracket and listen for the cable to click in place. Pull back on the selector lever cable to make sure that it is locked into the bracket.
Install the selector lever cable into the selector lever cable bracket and install a new retaining clip.
4. NOTICE: To prevent selector lever cable damage, do not apply force to the selector lever cable assembly between the manual control lever and the selector lever cable bracket.
NOTE: When installing the selector lever cable, make sure that the selector lever cable locking tabs are locked in place. Press the selector lever cable into the bracket and listen for the cable to click in place. Pull back on the selector lever cable to make sure that it is locked into the bracket.
Connect the selector lever cable onto the manual control lever.
5. Push the rubber grommet and selector lever cable up through the floor pan.
6. Connect the cable pushpin onto the stud on the dash panel.
7. NOTICE: To prevent selector lever cable damage, do not apply force to the selector lever cable assembly between the selector lever arm and the steering column bracket.
NOTE: When installing the selector lever cable, make sure that the selector lever cable locking tabs are locked in place. Press the selector lever cable into the bracket and listen for the cable to click in place. Pull back on the selector lever cable to make sure that it is locked into the bracket.
Connect the selector lever cable onto the steering column.
1. Connect the selector lever cable retainer.
2. Connect the selector lever cable onto the steering column bracket.
3. Connect the selector lever cable onto the selector lever arm.
- Listen for the audible click.
- Pull back on the selector lever cable to make sure that it is correctly installed.
8. Install the steering column lower shroud.
1. Install the screws and the lower shroud.
9. Install the tilt lever and screw.
- Tighten to 6 Nm (53 lb-in).
10. Install the tilt lever dust boot.
11. Install the instrument panel lower finish panel.
12. Adjust the selector lever cable. For additional information, refer to Selector Lever Cable Adjustment Adjustments.
