Pinpoint Test M: Navigation Is Inoperative

Normal Operation

The Global Positioning System Module (GPSM) provides information from the GPS (Global Positioning System) satellite system to the Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM). This information is used to calculate vehicle position and direction of travel.

Removal of the navigation SD card results in loss of navigation while the card is removed. This is normal operation.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Navigation map SD card not present

- Network communication concern

- APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module)

- GPSM (Global Positioning System Module)

PINPOINT TEST M : THE NAVIGATION IS INOPERATIVE

M1 CHECK THE FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) TOUCHSCREEN RH UPPER TAB

- Check the navigation status of the FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) touchscreen RH upper tab.

Does the FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) touchscreen RH upper tab read Navigation?

Yes
GO to M7.

No
GO to M2.

M2 CHECK FOR SCAN TOOL COMMUNICATION WITH THE APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) AND GPSM (Global Positioning System Module)

- Ignition ON.

- Using a scan tool, perform the network test.

Does the scan tool communicate with the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) AND GPSM (Global Positioning System Module)?

Yes
GO to M3.

No
For the GPSM (Global Positioning System Module), REFER to Information Bus The GPSM (Global Positioning System Module) Does Not Respond To The Scan Tool Pinpoint Test P: The Global Positioning System Module (GPSM) Does Not Respond To The Scan Tool.

For the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module), REFER to Information Bus The APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) Does Not Respond To The Scan Tool Pinpoint Test S: The Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) Does Not Respond To The Scan Tool.

M3 RETRIEVE THE DTCs FROM THE APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module)

- NOTE: If DTC B1215:00 is set in the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) and the RH upper tab of the FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) touchscreen displays" SD CARD FAULT".

NOTE: If DTC U016A:00 is set in the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) and the RH upper tab of the FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) touchscreen displays" NAVIGATION FAULT".
Using a scan tool, preform the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) self-test.

Are any DTCs present?

Yes
If DTC B1215:00 is present, GO to M4.

If DTC U016A:00 is present, GO to Pinpoint Test W. Pinpoint Test W: DTC U016A:00

For all others, REFER to DTC Charts Information and Entertainment Systems.

No
GO to M7.

M4 VERIFY THE SD CARD WITH NAVIGATION MAP IS PRESENT AND FULLY SEATED

- Check for the presence of an SD card with map data in the SD slot of the media hub.

Is the navigation map SD card present and fully seated?

Yes
GO to M5.

No
INSTALL the navigation map SD card and make sure it is fully seated. TEST the system for normal operation.

M5 VERIFY WITH A KNOWN GOOD SD CARD WITH NAVIGATION MAP

- Using a known good SD card with map navigation, attempt to use the navigation system.

Does the navigation map operate correctly and is the SD fault not present?

Yes
GO to M6.

No
REFER to Pinpoint Test H. Pinpoint Test H: The Media Hub Is Inoperative Or Has Poor Sound Or Image Quality

M6 RECHECK THE ORIGINAL SD CARD WITH NAVIGATION MAP

- REINSTALL the original SD card with map data into the SD slot of the media hub and attempt to use the navigation system.

Does the navigation map operate correctly and is the SD fault not present?

Yes
The SD fault was due to an intermittent conductivity concern. The navigation system is operating correctly at this time.

No
INSTALL a new SD card with navigation. The cause of the fault was due to a inoperative SD card with navigation.

M7 RESET THE AUDIO SYSTEM MODULES AND RECHECK THE NAVIGATION SYSTEM OPERATION

- Disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then reconnect it.

- Turn the infotainment system on and wait for the system to re-initialize.

- Operate the navigation system.

Does the navigation system operate correctly?

Yes
The concern was resolved by resetting the audio system modules. The navigation system is operating correctly at this time.

No
GO to M8.

M8 REPROGRAM THE APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module)

- Perform the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) Standard Programming and force a CIP (Consumer Interface Processor) reflash. REFER to Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) Programming- Standard, 8-Inch (203 mm) Touchscreen Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) Programming - Standard, 8-Inch (203 mm) Touchscreen.

- Once the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) programming is complete and the system has re-initialized, confirm that the RH upper tab of the FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) touchscreen displays" NAVIGATION" and the navigation system operates correctly.

Does the RH upper tab of the FDIM (Front Display Interface Module) touchscreen displays "NAVIGATION" and the navigation system operate correctly?

Yes
The concern was resolved by reflashing the APIM. The navigation system is operating correctly at this time.

No
GO to M9.

M9 CHECK FOR CORRECT APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) OPERATION

- Disconnect the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) connector.

- Check for:
- corrosion

- damaged pins

- pushed-out pins

- Connect the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) connector and make sure it seats correctly.

- Wait 2 minutes for the APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module) to re-initialize.

- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.

Is the concern still present?

Yes
INSTALL a new APIM (Accessory Protocol Interface Module). REFER to Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM). TEST the system for normal operation.

No
The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
